Willkie is one of six firms named to the shortlist.
Willkie’s London Competition team, led by partners Philipp Girardet and Rahul Saha, has been named a finalist in The Lawyer Awards 2020 for Competition & Regulatory Team of the Year. The firm is recognized for its role advising Fidelity National Information Services, Inc. (FIS) on its acquisition of Worldpay, Inc. (Worldpay) in successfully obtaining unconditional Phase 1 clearance from the European Commission. The $42 billion merger, announced in March 2019, was the largest fintech deal ever, combining a global leader in payment processing technology with the world’s largest merchant acquirer.
Willkie’s London Competition team was also named a finalist in the 2020 Legal Business Awards for Competition Team of the Year for its representation of Expedia Group in the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority’s 18-month investigation into online hotel booking site display practices in the UK.
The Lawyer Awards recognizes leading firms, organizations and lawyers for their work on a standout matter with 70+ judges evaluating over 500 entries across 28 different categories. The awards ceremony will take place virtually on November 3, with the winners announced at that time.
