New York, NY, February 25, 2025 – Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP today announced that former U.S. Ambassador Lee Wolosky has joined Willkie as a partner. Lee is based in New York and Washington, D.C. and will serve as Chair of the Firm’s new National Security and Cross Border Litigation practice. Also joining Willkie as partners are Andrew Lichtman, who is based in New York, and Douglass Mitchell, who is based in Washington, D.C.
Lee, who served under four U.S. Presidents in senior legal and national security positions, is a nationally-recognized litigator and advisor. He is known for leading precedent-setting cases related to national security matters and foreign affairs, and for representing high-profile clients in multibillion-dollar litigation, including complex multi-jurisdictional disputes.
“We have continued to see a growing demand from global businesses as they navigate high-profile litigation and increasingly complex national security, cross border and government-facing problems,” said Firm Chairman Thomas Cerabino. “Lee and team bring a combination of litigation, international, business, and government experience that is unrivaled.”
“Willkie works with many of the most prominent global companies and senior executives across business, private equity and tech. My practice fits well within the areas in which it has invested and grown over the last several years,” said Wolosky. “Litigation at Willkie has become a destination practice and I’m excited to work alongside such an exceptional team of accomplished lawyers.”
Corporations, boards of directors, governments, and CEOs turn to Lee to navigate their most existential challenges. He represents both plaintiffs and defendants in litigation, including complex commercial and cross-border disputes, including suits and investigations concerning terrorism and state-sponsored hacking along with suits involving the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, the Anti-Terrorism Act, the invocation of the state secrets doctrine, corrupt payments, money laundering, the Foreign Agents Registration Act, and the espionage laws. In government, he served as Special Counsel to the President of the United States, Special Envoy for Guantanamo Closure and, earlier in his career, as director of Transnational Threats on the National Security Council at the White House.
Lee has led some of the most high-profile matters in recent years, having successfully resolved numerous multibillion-dollar civil disputes, regulatory proceedings, and governmental investigations, and he recently served as government-appointed Monitor of a tier-one financial institution under three separate consent decrees. He also frequently guides clients through congressional investigations and hearings.
“Willkie regularly advises a wide range clients on business-critical issues, including managing and mitigating risk in many of the most complicated areas of the law,” said Matthew Feldman, Chairman of the Firm. “Lee’s leadership of our National Security and Cross Border Litigation practice will be an immediate asset to our clients across all sectors.”
Doug Mitchell has over 20 years of experience representing companies and individuals around the globe facing complex, high-stakes civil and criminal litigation matters. He has represented companies and individuals on multijurisdictional and often multibillion-dollar matters ranging from terrorism, civil, and criminal racketeering to challenges to state secrets issues, state immunity, and mortgage fraud.
Andrew Lichtman is a skilled litigator with significant experience defending financial institutions, investment firms, multinational companies, technology companies, and corporate executives in their toughest legal challenges. Andrew represents clients in complex civil litigation including securities and financial services cases, merger and acquisition matters, derivative and shareholder lawsuits, and other types of commercial disputes. He is often turned to by clients from industries as diverse as banking and other financial services, manufacturing, and technology to navigate multifaceted challenges when stakes are at their highest. Andrew is also skilled in representing companies and individuals investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Justice.
Willkie’s Litigation Department has a national and international practice representing major U.S. and non-U.S. financial services companies, accounting firms, insurance and reinsurance companies and brokers, media companies, and individuals in complex commercial and class-action litigation.
