Willkie represented GBG USA Inc., an owner and licensor of various popular retail brands in its chapter 11 cases.
Willkie advised GBG USA Inc. in its chapter 11 cases, which included a series of sales of GBG’s fashion brands, including Aquatalia, Spyder, Sean John, Frye and Ely & Walker. Willkie also negotiated a global settlement with GBG’s primary stakeholders, including GBG’s secured lenders and the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors. These efforts culminated in a consensual chapter 11 plan, which is designed to maximize creditor recoveries and facilitate an orderly wind down of GBG’s remaining assets. The plan was confirmed by the Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York and went effective on February 25, 2022 – just over six months after GBG filed for chapter 11 relief.
The multidisciplinary team was led by Business Reorganization & Restructuring partners Rachel Strickland and Andrew Mordkoff and included partner Melainie Mansfield, and associates Ciara Sisco, Rob Engelke and Erin Ryan.
