Ciara Sisco serves as Willkie’s Senior Pro Bono Attorney, where she is responsible for implementing the firm’s award-winning pro bono program. Ciara works with Willkie’s Pro Bono Counsel to encourage attorney engagement in pro bono, staff and supervise active pro bono matters, coordinate pro bono-related training and events, and develop and maintain the firm’s partnerships with legal services organizations.
Ciara also maintains an active pro bono practice, providing direct representation for low-income clients and serving as counsel in impact litigation cases across the country. Ciara has represented the parents of children murdered in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in bankruptcy proceedings and related lawsuits against conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. She also represents Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, Georgia election workers who secured a $148 million defamation judgment against Rudy Giuliani, in their capacity as receivers of his estate. Ciara also played an integral role in the Toomey v. Arizona case, a class action brought by Willkie and the ACLU that resulted in a consent decree permanently prohibiting the state of Arizona from excluding gender-affirming care from its employee health plans. In 2020, Ciara received the Employee Recognition and Volunteer Appreciation Award from the Children’s Law Center for her role successfully litigating an international child abduction case, in which Willkie represented a mother escaping with her children from an extremist religious sect in Guatemala.
Prior to her current role, Ciara was an associate in the litigation and business reorganization and restructuring departments. She also served as Willkie’s Law Fellow at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, where she litigated school desegregation and voting rights cases, and coordinated Supreme Court amicus strategy in support of race-conscious admissions policies. As an associate, Ciara served on the Pro Bono Committee and Women’s Professional Development Committee, and was also a member of Willkie Digital Works, the firm’s crypto and financial technology practice group.
