Willkie was recognized at the IFLR Europe Awards 2025 for advising EMAG Group on its restructuring, a complex cross-border reorganization that was named “Impact Deal of the Year.”
A multidisciplinary Willkie team led by partners Jörn Kowalewski, Ulrich Klockenbrink and Jan-Philipp Praß in Frankfurt/Hamburg was honored for its work as restructuring counsel to EMAG Group, a global producer of machine tools mastering all processes involved in the soft and hard machining of metals. The groundbreaking restructuring entailed the use of an unprecedented double-layer restructuring plan by way of Germany’s StaRUG proceedings. IFLR recognized Willkie alongside the other firms that had key roles in the matter.
The award highlights the leadership and accomplishments of Willkie’s global Restructuring Department, as well as the market-leading capabilities of the German restructuring team that joined the firm in June 2024. Moreover, it showcases the seamless collaboration of Willkie lawyers from various practice groups and offices all over the globe.
The IFLR awards recognize legal innovation through dealmaking that improves the cross-border investment environment. Award winners were announced at an event in London on April 3.
