Michael Li-Ming Wong, Co-Chair of Willkie’s Global White-Collar Defense Practice Group, has been named to Daily Journal’s “Top White Collar Lawyers 2024” as one of the leading white-collar defense attorneys in California.
Daily Journal recognized Michael’s leadership and accomplishments in complex white-collar criminal cases, further establishing him as one of the foremost attorneys in the field. Michael’s practice focuses on white-collar criminal matters including securities fraud, consumer fraud, cryptocurrency fraud and insider trading, as well as complex civil litigation, data privacy matters, and internal investigations. He has tried more than twenty civil and criminal jury trials in federal and state courts, including multiple multiweek jury trials in recent years.
The publication highlighted Michael’s recent success representing a large publicly traded banking conglomerate in a multiyear investigation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. He secured the complete dismissal of the investigation, with no charges or penalties filed against his client – a “rare and significant victory” in such a high-profile case, Daily Journal noted.
In addition, Daily Journal noted Michael’s experience clerking for both Judge José A. Cabranes of the Second Circuit and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
“From both of them, I learned lessons about approaching the law with integrity an intellectual rigor and pursuing justice with both precision and compassion,” Michael told Daily Journal. “In all my legal writing, I still strive to heed Justice Ginsburg’s advice to me: ‘Get it right and keep it tight!’”
Prior to entering private practice, Michael was an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California, where he served for several years as Chief of the White Collar Crimes Section, and Chief of the Major Crimes Section.
