Willkie partner Craig C. Martin, Chairman, Midwest, has been named to the “2024 Notable Leaders in Accounting, Consulting & Law” by Crain’s Chicago Business.
Craig was recognized as a leader of Chicago’s business community and one of the foremost lawyers in the region. Crain’s noted that he launched Willkie’s Chicago office in 2020 and has quickly established it as a market leader, building a diverse team of approximately 100 lawyers.
A member of Willkie’s Executive Committee, Craig is widely recognized as one of the top trial lawyers in the country and counsel to marquee clients, including major Chicago companies and some of the nation’s most influential families. Crain’s noted his record of success in high-stakes commercial contract, patent infringement and antitrust litigation, and highlighted his nationwide pro bono work in civil rights cases. It also highlighted Craig’s role advising United Airlines’ Board of Directors in connection with a 2015 internal investigation that led to the dismissal of United’s former CEO and a non-prosecution agreement with the government.
In addition, the publication noted Craig’s focus on civic engagement, including his service on the boards of the Aspen Institute, the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, and World Business Chicago. He is also a member of the Lyric Opera of Chicago board of directors, its Executive Committee and chairs its Nominating and Governance Committee. He also serves on the boards of the Crown Family Philanthropies, the Chicago Urban League, the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and is a member of the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago, the Economic Club of Chicago and the National Association of Corporate Directors.
Among his many other accolades, Craig is perennially recognized in Chambers USA and Chambers Global for his leadership and accomplishments in the law. In the current edition of Chambers USA, Craig is ranked as a leading lawyer in five areas: Litigation: Trial Lawyers (Global); Litigation: Trial Lawyers (National); ERISA Litigation (National); Litigation: General Commercial (Illinois); and Intellectual Property (Illinois).
