Michael Gottlieb and Meryl Governski, partners in Willkie’s Litigation Department, have been selected as finalists for the 2024 Winning Litigators award by the National Law Journal. The award highlights attorneys for their work guiding clients through high-stakes litigation.
Mike and Meryl were recognized for their representation of Fulton County Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss in their landmark defamation lawsuit against Rudy Giuliani, which culminated in a $148 million jury verdict following a week-long jury trial in late 2023.
Mike and Meryl are passionate about using the law as a remedy to help victims of disinformation stand up against bullies and repair their lives. They previously represented the family of Seth Rich, a murdered DNC staffer who was falsely accused (after his death) of having stolen and leaked DNC documents to Wikileaks in the so-called “Russiagate” conspiracy theory. Additionally, Mike previously represented the owner of Comet Ping Pong, a Washington, D.C. pizza restaurant, during the “pizzagate” conspiracy theory that falsely accused the restaurant of involvement in child sex trafficking.
Willkie was also selected as a finalist for the Community Impact Leaders award.
The winners of the National Law Journal Legal Awards 2024 will be announced at an event in Washington, DC on October 24.
