A Willkie pro bono litigation team led by partners Benedict Hur, Eduardo Santacana and Joshua Anderson has been recognized by The AmLaw Litigation Daily for its success representing the Board of U.C. Law San Francisco in a suit that challenged the Board’s decision to drop Hastings from the name of the law school.
On February 6, San Francisco Superior Court Judge Richard Ulmer, Jr. dismissed all claims against the Board and the State of California, finding that the 1878 statutory agreement under which the school was founded and named was not a contract and the California legislature’s decision to change the name was not a bill of attainder prohibited under the California Constitution. Simona Agnolucci, managing partner of the firm’s San Francisco office and chair of the law school’s board, was one of the defendants named in the case.
The Willkie team also included associates Julia Marenkova and Nadim Houssain.
