Partner Koren (Kori) Bell has been named to the Daily Journal’s “Top Women Lawyers 2023” for her leadership in the law and achievements as a leading litigator handling high-stakes trials and appeals.
The publication recognized Kori as one of the foremost female lawyers in California, noting her record of success as a first-chair trial and appellate attorney, experience in public service and commitment to advancing the careers of diverse lawyers at the forefront of the industry.
Daily Journal highlighted Kori’s client-centered approach and ability to accomplish highly individualized objectives, a strength she developed early in her career at the Federal Public Defender’s Office in Los Angeles.
“You have to think broadly, strategically and creatively in order to maximize the paths to success for the client according to his or her goals,” she told Daily Journal.
The publication also recognized her role as lead counsel in some of the country’s most prominent trials and appeals, noting her success in navigating novel areas of law and arguing first-impression issues. In addition, Daily Journal highlighted Kori’s contributions as a thought leader and champion for diversity in the law. Her efforts include serving as a member of the Judicial Externship Program Committee for the Mexican American Bar Association and helping applicants secure clerkships that are often integral to a successful career.
“My own experience clerking has led me to understand the significance of that opportunity and how important it is to make a connection with a judge who can be a lifelong professional mentor,” she told Daily Journal.
Building on her work as a mentor and thought leader in the law, Kori authored an article in the Daily Journal’s Top Women 2023 supplement titled, “Promoting Women as Lead Counsel: the Role of the Bench, In-House Counsel, and the Media.” The article focuses on closing the gender gap in the legal industry and addresses the collective efforts that courts, clients and the media can make to ensure that more female lawyers are able to excel as lead trial counsel.
