Willkie has been named to the GAR 100 2023, Global Arbitration Review’s annual guide to the top international arbitration firms worldwide.

The publication highlighted the experience of Grégoire Bertrou and Duncan Speller, Co-Chairs of Willkie’s International Arbitration Practice Group, and the growth of the practice across Willkie’s offices in Europe and the U.S. It also noted the arbitration capabilities of partner Matthias Schrader and counsel Sergey Alekhin and Dharshini Prasad.

GAR also spotlighted Willkie’s recent success in a series of high-profile arbitration proceedings, including securing the dismissal of a $300 million claim against Kyrgyzstan – after replacing a prominent firm as defense counsel midway through the case. The publication also cited Willkie’s representation of a group of Armenian investors in a novel dispute against the Republic of Azerbaijan arising from the “Second Karabakh War.” The dispute concerns investments in hydroelectric power plants located in territory retaken by Azerbaijan during the conflict.

GAR also noted Willkie’s landmark victory last year at the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of AlixPartners and its CEO that limited the ability of parties to an arbitration abroad to compel discovery through orders from the federal courts, among many other recent accomplishments in high-stakes arbitrations.

The recognition is the latest milestone for Willkie’s International Arbitration practice, which has established itself at the forefront of the market and now stands among the teams with “true experience and ringcraft,” according to GAR.

GAR is the leading resource on international arbitration news and community intelligence.
