The recent growth of the London office was recognized as part of annual industry report.
Willkie is ranked first in The Lawyer’s 2022 list of the fastest-growing U.S. firms by headcount.
The publication noted that over the past five years, Willkie has doubled the size of its London office to 106 lawyers – a surge that includes the addition of numerous high-profile laterals – and that it has grown at a faster rate than any of its peer firms.
The Lawyer highlighted the prominence of Willkie’s private equity practice and the ongoing growth that has followed the addition of partner Claire McDaid in 2014. Importantly, it also emphasized the success Willkie has had in growing a balanced and broad platform that complements its transactional capabilities.
The publication noted the recent arrival of several leading lawyers to Willkie’s London office, including the addition of partners Melanie James and Tim Baumgartner to the Insurance Transactional and Regulatory Practice Group, and the addition of partners Boris Bronfentrinker, Elaine Whiteford and Nicola Chesaites to its antitrust and litigation platforms. It also highlighted the arrival of Barrister Duncan Speller, who joined as partner to launch Willkie’s international arbitration practice in London.
Willkie’s distinction is part of The Lawyer’s annual ranking of the top 50 U.S. firms in London and in conjunction with its Signal City Report.
