Willkie partner and Latin America practice head Maria-Leticia Ossa Daza was recently featured in a profile in Latin Counsel. In the Q&A article, she discusses her career path, challenges faced, advice to junior attorneys, and how she has adjusted her practice in the current COV-19 pandemic.
Ms. Ossa Daza noted that while Willkie has been working remotely for several months, the firm’s Latin America practice has been busier than ever as clients have needed help navigating the toll the pandemic has taken on their business.
In describing challenges she has faced as a corporate attorney in Latin America, Ms. Ossa Daza said, “Common bias encountered by women practicing corporate law in Latin America and other regions is that they are not seen as ‘tough’ enough or fully committed. But if they are assertive, they are often seen as too aggressive. Overcoming these challenges takes time, cultural changes and requires a mind shift. You have to work harder and show that you can handle the pressure and pace of transactional work.”
Latin Counsel is an international publication covering legal and financial news across Spain, Portugal and Latin America.
