Ms. Amert served as co-chair of Legal Aid Society’s annual awards luncheon.
Partner Amanda Amert was featured in a Chicago Daily Law Bulletin article for her work with Legal Aid Society, where she serves as a board member for the organization and co-chaired the annual awards luncheon, which took place on October 21.
In the article, she discusses the critical work by LAS and its far-reaching impact. The article noted that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, LAS saw an increase in requests for services as people suddenly were faced with economic and unemployment difficulties, and incidents of domestic abuse increased.
“Last year we provided assistance to 13,800 individuals,” Ms. Amert said. “The services those clients received ranged from people walking in and asking for advice about creating a will to ongoing assistance for immigrants or victims of domestic violence.”
She also noted that LAS has raised over $250,000 in the last year.
“Considering all the circumstances this year, we’re very pleased with what we raised,” said Ms. Amert. “The need is so acute right now, and people have been astonishingly generous. No matter what we raise, we can do amazing things with it. It’s been a challenging year, but overall I’m amazed.”
LAS, a branch of Metropolitan Family Services, provides pro-bono legal assistance to low income individuals and vulnerable communities including immigrants, the elderly, and victims of human trafficking and domestic abuse.
