Dr. Claudius Straub is an associate in the Corporate & Financial Services and Asset Management Departments. His practice focuses on financial services regulatory and asset management matters as well as on M&A transactions in the financial sector. Claudius advises clients in banking and insurance regulatory, financial services regulatory and asset management matters and has also notable experience in (structured) finance transactions. 

Claudius speaks German (native) and English (fluent).
 

Experience

Prior to joining Willkie, Claudius was an associate at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP and, from 2015 to 2018, he worked as a judge at various Local and Regional Courts and also as seconded judge at the Department of Justice of the State of Rhineland Palatinate.

His experience includes the following representative matters*:

  • Several non-EU AIFMs in the filing of (pre-)marketing notifications in Germany for non-EU AIFs.
  • A leading sovereign wealth fund in connection with its investments in regulated entities in Europe.
  • OVH Groupe in the origination of a €500 million term loan facility and a €420 million revolving credit facility.
  • Goodyear on various bank lending, structured finance, and factoring transactions.
  • Latour Capital in the financing of its acquisition of Solvay‘s barium and strontium, and sodium percarbonate businesses.
  • Biscuit International Group in the financing of its acquisition of the Aviateur group.
  • Belron S.A. in a $455 million incremental amendment to the senior secured term loan B and multiple credit commitment and term loan increases.
  • Oaktree Capital Management and Northwestern Mutual as second-lien lenders in the restructuring of credit facilities advanced to sausage-skin manufacturer Kalle GmbH.
  • Sodiaal International in ESG Schuldschein loan agreements and the renegotiation of financing agreements.
  • Mapletree in the preparation of a due diligence report for a previously acquired German situs property and providing reliance to future co-investors and financing banks.
