Stephanie Miner is an associate in the Litigation Department. Stephanie represents both companies and individuals in complex commercial litigation at the trial and appellate level and government investigations and enforcement actions. She has represented clients in high-stakes litigation matters in federal and state courts in a wide variety of subject matters, including contract disputes, conspiracy, defamation, market manipulation, and ERISA. Stephanie has also represented individuals and companies before the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Department of Justice, and other regulatory agencies.
Stephanie maintains an active pro bono practice primarily focused on advocating for incarcerated individuals. Stephanie spearheaded Willkie’s partnership with the Appellate Division of the Maryland Public Defender’s Office, which enables associates to represent individuals in their criminal appeals before the Appellate Court of Maryland. Stephanie also secured the release of an individual sentenced as a juvenile to over 50 years in prison through representation that spanned a six-year period. Most recently, Stephanie completed an externship at the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs where she focused on systemic civil rights litigation aimed to reform police departments and prison systems.

Stephanie has recently advised on the following significant matters:
- Representing a global food agricultural company in a fraudulent transfers lawsuit involving a swap counterparty.
- Represented a private equity firm in a Securities and Exchange Commission investigation relating to its block trading strategy.
- Represented William Browder, the leading global advocate for the Magnitsky Act, and the Magnitsky Justice Foundation in response to a defamation lawsuit filed by a Russian lobbyist, Rinat Akhmetshin.
- Represented a hedge fund in an $8 billion short-selling lawsuit alleging conspiracy to drive down a public company’s stock price.
- Represented an energy and commodity trading company in Federal Energy Regulatory Commission enforcement action alleging the company and its employee manipulated the California Independent System Operator’s power market.
- Represented Aon Hewitt Investment Consulting, Inc. in a $12.6 million ERISA lawsuit and was part of the trial team that secured a complete defense victory for Aon.
- Represented an individual charged federally with conspiracy to commit cyberstalking and persuaded the prosecution to agree to a sentence without incarceration.
