Elizabeth (Betsy) Astrup is an associate in Willkie’s Litigation Department whose practice focuses on all phases of complex commercial litigation in both federal and state courts. She has represented clients in high-stakes litigation in a variety of substantive areas, including contract disputes, ERISA, data privacy and cybersecurity, and civil rights litigation, and has advised public corporations on internal and governmental investigations and board matters. Betsy regularly drafts dispositive and other significant motions, as well as appellate briefs, and has experience in taking and defending depositions, preparing witnesses, managing fact and expert discovery, and conducting direct examinations at trial.
Betsy maintains an active pro bono practice representing clients in civil cases. In August 2024, she was part of a trial team that secured a six-figure verdict for their client in a prisoner’s civil rights case. Betsy serves on the Chicago Public Library Foundation’s Associate Board and the Public Interest Law Initiative’s (PILI) Young Professionals Board.
