The Recorder, ALM’s California-focused publication, profiled Michael Li-Ming Wong upon his move to Willkie. Michael joined Willkie as a partner and Co-Chair of the national White-Collar Defense practice in January. He is based in the San Francisco and Palo Alto offices.
In the article, Michael said his move to Willkie presented a great opportunity to serve in a national leadership position at a global firm and team up with Willkie’s San Francisco managing partners Simona Agnolucci and Ben Hur to support further growth of the office. He also said Willkie’s diversity at every level was important, discussed his intention to continue his pro bono advocacy, and talked about his commitment to being a “very hands-on Dad” despite his busy practice, something he learned during his clerkship for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
As a first-generation Chinese American, Michael said it is important for him to serve as a role model for the next generation: “Someone who looks like me, a person who is different, can also serve as a law firm leader, not just sitting at counsel table, but lead trial lawyer, and in other roles that maybe years ago he couldn’t.”
Former colleagues commented on Michael’s accomplishments, sharing the high regard they hold for him.
