Willkie recently provided pro bono representation to GO Foundation, a leading educational non-profit organization, in securing $5 million of financing for its new school in the West Village.
Willkie has been a longtime partner to the GO Foundation and previously helped close a 30-year lease of a former Catholic school at 240 Bleecker Street that will house the Great Oaks Charter School of New York City. The financing from BlueHub Capital, a nonprofit community development organization, will be used to remodel the space for the new school.
The GO Foundation prepares students in urban schools for college success through high-dosage tutoring. The organization recruits, trains, and supports a corps of young adults who are placed in partner schools where they intensively tutor students as a part of a year of service through the federal AmeriCorps program.
The Willkie pro bono team was led by partner David Drewes and included associate Connor Burns and law clerk Matthew Ender-Silberman.
