Willkie is celebrating Pro Bono Week 2022 with activities across the Firm highlighting the importance of pro bono service. The Firm also recognizes the exceptional results of our lawyers and volunteers on behalf of pro bono clients in a wide array of matters this year.

This year’s Pro Bono Week activities include a series of live presentations and training seminars highlighting Willkie’s pro bono work across a range of significant legal issues, including reproductive rights, transgender healthcare, immigration matters and disability claims for veterans. The Firm’s work on high-profile matters involving Lange v. Houston County (transgender healthcare rights) and Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health amicus brief (constitutional abortion rights), will be discussed, among others, with speakers from organizations including Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund, National Veterans Legal Services Program, Her Justice and Tzedek DC.

Over the past year, a significant number of Willkie’s U.S. attorneys billed over 20 hours to pro bono, with an average of 62 hours per lawyer. In 2022, over 500 Willkie U.S. attorneys worked on more than 500 pro bono matters, with over 150 new pro bono matters opened by the Firm’s U.S. offices.

Willkie and its lawyers have been recognized for its pro bono efforts this year, including being honored with The National Law Journal ESG and Community Impact Leader Award, shortlisted for The American Lawyer Corporate Purpose Award and inclusion on the American Lawyer A-List, which cited the Firm’s pro bono work in the ranking.

The Firm was also recognized with several honors from pro bono and legal organizations this year, including The Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund Pro Bono Partner of the Year award, The Vance Center Good Governance Award,  New York State Bar Association Empire State Counsel Honors and D.C. Courts’ Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll.
