Willkie is proud to announce the installation of two more urban beehives on the roofs of our U.S. offices. The latest hives are in Washington, D.C. and Chicago, and are in addition to the two urban hives that are in New York. In total, these Willkie-sponsored hives are expected to house approximately 100,000 honey bees at peak population. One-third of our entire food system—from produce, to meat, to dairy, and more—is reliant on pollination, magnifying the importance of sustaining healthy bee populations.
The hives are maintained by global beekeeping company Alvéole and will play a direct role in supporting the survival of bees, as well as the survival of urban greenspaces. At the end of the season, we will harvest honey from the hives and share it with our community. Throughout the year, employees will also have the opportunity to take part in a series of educational events to build awareness around honey bees, the importance of urban beekeeping and how it supports the environment.
