Litigation associate Kaydene Grinnell will work with the Legal Defense and Education Fund on motion practice, depositions and trial work until July 2021.
Willkie’s Pro Bono and Diversity & Inclusion Committees are pleased to announce the Firm’s participation in a new externship with the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. LDF fights for racial justice in communities across the United States through litigation and advocacy. Its areas of focus include criminal justice, economic justice, education and political participation.
Litigation associate Kaydene Grinnell is the first Willkie lawyer to participate in the program. She will work with LDF on motion practice, depositions and trial work until July 2021. Kaydene is a leader in Willkie’s Black Affinity Group and she has also served as co-chair of NYU’s Education Law and Policy group and a member of the ACLU’s racial justice clinic.
Kaydene has a longstanding interest in racial justice and civil rights, which is reflected in her pro bono practice at Willkie as well. As a former educator, Kaydene saw firsthand the pervasive nature of racial inequality and social injustice in the classroom, and their lifelong effects on students and families. "This LDF externship will allow me to continue to advocate on behalf of society's most vulnerable communities," said Kaydene. "I look forward to the new partnership between LDF and Willkie and the continued commitment towards eradicating racial injustice."
