On February 25, Willkie counsel and former New York State Governor Mario M. Cuomo addressed the World Pension Forum in Palm Beach, Florida. The World Pension Forum (formerly known as Pensions 2000) provides an educational assembly for pension fund managers, trustees and financial executives together with world leaders and key decision makers. The Forum gathers experienced institutional managers, respected business leaders, senior government officials, leading academics and other delegates from around the world to review and discuss topics and issues germane to the pension fund industry. In his keynote speech, Governor Cuomo discussed the difficult challenges the nation is now facing, including the threat of war, the fight against terrorism and the ailing economy. He emphasized that while the United States is strong enough to dominate the world, it must be smart enough to lead it, instead. He told the assemblage of leading executives that “the growing global interconnectedness and interdependence creates two different possibilities - increased tension and hostility, or opportunities for cooperation and integration. And we should continue to help the world to choose cooperation and integration, recognizing that the way up for the nation and for the world is through collaboration…and not fragmentation.” Governor Cuomo practices in Willkie’s Corporate and Financial Services Department and Litigation Department in New York.
