On June 20 in Los Angeles, partners Susan Rohol, Sid Fohrman, and Shane Nix will participate as panelists at the Entertainment Industry Conference 2024, hosted by the California Society of CPAs.
At 10:30 am (PT), Susan will moderate the “Artificial Intelligence” panel, which will cover the changing ways Hollywood and the entertainment industry are using AI, new tools actors and musicians are leveraging to generate content and protect their works, as well as recent laws and regulations that are shifting the legal landscape around AI, including the EU AI Act and Colorado’s AI law.
At 1:15 pm (PT), Sid will participate in the “Keynote | Strategies for Success in the Music Industry” discussion with Jonathan Strauss, the Co-Founder and CEO of Create Music Group. Sid and Jonathan will discuss the financial dynamics and technological innovations driving the music industry, including novel approaches to securing monetization opportunities and building new audiences, leveraging data analytics and social platforms, content creation and artist brand-building, and the current state of music catalog acquisitions.
At 3:40 pm (PT), Shane will speak on the “Tax Update” panel, which will offer a comprehensive overview of domestic and international considerations, including EDD’s recent focus on loanout companies and payroll taxes, inbound and outbound considerations for talent, and music transaction considerations. The panel’s learning objectives include recognizing foreign tax credit issues for outbound talent, understanding when a non-U.S. citizen is subject to U.S. income tax, legal analysis for character of gain on music catalog sales, and special rules applicable to entertainers.
