On August 11 and 12, Willkie Private Clients Group senior counsel Jonathan Lurie, counsel Justin Alt and associate Elchonon Istrin will speak at CalCPA’s Estate and Trust Planning Virtual Conference.
On August 11 at 9:50 am PT, Justin will speak as part of the “IRS Audits of Estate Tax Returns” session, discussing preparation techniques for estate and gift tax returns aimed at minimizing audit risks, an overview of the life cycle of a case once a transfer tax return is filed with the IRS (including classification, examination, and appeals), and strategies for effectively resolving disputes with the IRS.
On August 12 at 8:35 am PT, Jonathan and Elchonon will speak in the “Valuation of Notes” session. This discussion will include topics such as how to deal with debt, when a note can be considered a gift, and the value of a note in a sale to a defective trust vs. its value if one passes away.
