Litigation

The test of any litigation department is its trial work.  Every lawyer in our litigation department is trained to be a trial lawyer.  Every year, we try numerous cases before courts and tribunals across the country and around the world in controversies of all sorts.  We regularly represent companies and individuals in investigative and enforcement proceedings brought by federal and state regulatory agencies, including the United States Attorney’s Office, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission.  We also have extensive experience conducting internal corporate investigations and we regularly participate in mediations and other forms of alternate dispute resolution.

Our clients include major domestic and foreign corporations, accounting firms, insurance companies, financial institutions, boards of directors, audit and special committees and corporate officers.

Our litigators have represented clients in a wide array of matters, including securities and financial reporting, accountants’ liability, patents and other intellectual properties, business torts, bankruptcy and reorganization issues, insurance and reinsurance, white collar criminal matters, antitrust, mergers and acquisitions, First Amendment issues and media, labor and employment law and environmental matters, among many others.  Many of these cases involved damages claims for hundreds of millions of dollars.

The Litigation Department has been recognized by Chambers USA for its outstanding work in general commercial and securities litigation and antitrust matters.  In doing so, Chambers noted our “ability to get it right when faced with difficulties.”  We have “impressed clients” with our “depth of antitrust litigation” and our “work on such technically challenging issues as accounting irregularities.”  Several of the Department’s partners have been recognized for excellence in their respective practice areas, including their “excellent, excellent courtroom skills with critical technical expertise” and their “commanding role in corporate control battles.” (Chambers USA - America’s Leading Business Lawyers).  The firm is also ranked as “highly recommended” by Benchmark: America’s Leading Litigation Firms and Attorneys.

Our litigators work closely with lawyers in the firm’s various practice groups to ensure that our clients receive thorough, high quality work product in the most efficient manner possible.
